Dealer's Choice (6.5 MB)

So what on earth am I doing with an audio recording of an entire episode of Dealer's Choice? Back in 1975, I watched this television game show religiously every night. I also had another religion, though, so on Halloween we were going to an evening vigil Mass for All Saints' Day at 8:00 PM. I placed my cassette recorder in front of a big Magnavox TV set and used a mechanical timer from Radio Shack to trip the tape recorder close to 8:00 PM so that I could time-shift the program and listen to it after I returned home. The basement had little furniture and a green, vinyl tile floor, and the TV had no audio jack, so that's why the sound has a bit of an echo to it. I never had occasion to record over the program, and the tape has been around all these years. When I saw that only one or two episodes are known to have survived, I decided to share. I wish I had the video, but VCR's were prohibitively expensive in 1975!

Tape 4 (23 MB)
Includes a scoped Dick Summer "Summer Secret Sneaky Sound" from WNBC-AM Radio 66, John Lund introducing the "new" WNBC on January 1, 1975 at midnight, and other snippets of the time.

Tape 11 (14.8 MB)

Tape 12 (12.8 MB)
An hour of public service announcements from 1975, recorded off WNWS-FM, which was NBC's News and Information Service affiliate in New York. Since NIS never really caught on, much of the ad time was unsold, and public service announcements filled the unsold ad time.

Tape 13 Side 1(7.6 MB)

Tape 13 Side 2(8.2 MB)
